Canines for Heritage Preservation

Canine Insight. Cultural Respect. Informed Decisions.

Our Approach

Based in western Colorado, we support projects throughout the Rocky Mountain region, the Great Plains, Alaska, and other areas as requested. We work collaboratively with Tribal Nations, descendant communities, agencies, cultural resource professionals, cemetery associations, and landowners to support respectful preservation planning in culturally sensitive environments.

Our services are structured to provide documented detection results that may inform early consultation, planning, and risk avoidance. Canine surveys are non-invasive and are intended to complement other information used by decision-makers and cultural resource professionals.

What We Do

We provide non-invasive detection canine surveys using specially trained teams to identify areas that may hold unmarked ancestral human remains in historic or prehistoric contexts.
Our work supports early planning, consultation, and avoidance strategies in environments where ground disturbance may pose risk. Surveys are conducted without excavation or collection and are intended to provide additional information for culturally informed decision-making.

How We Work

Surveys are conducted by specially trained canine teams using structured, repeatable methods designed for discretion and documentation. Deployment strategies are adapted to site conditions, environmental factors, and project context.
When feasible, multiple canine teams may be used to support verification and consistency. Results are documented with spatial references and delivered in formats compatible with professional planning and reporting.

Who We Serve

We provide services in support of Tribal Nations, descendant communities — including African American and other historic cemetery contexts — cultural resource management professionals, public agencies, land managers, cemetery associations, and private landowners. Engagements are conducted with careful attention to cultural authority, confidentiality, and community values, particularly in environments where sensitivity and discretion are priorities.
Our role is supportive and collaborative.
